Flora
You will see miles of thorn bushes locally called Wabi or Twisted Acacia. The bush doesn’t need much water to grow and it grows fast. It is a source of food for birds and nectar for bees, which produce a unique and very flavourful honey from its yellow flowers.
Between the wabi you will find many beautiful plants and trees:
Bougainvillaea - The bush has brightly colored bracts (flower-like leaves) in shades of pink, red, orange, and purple that surround its small white or yellow flowers.
Flamboyant Tree - Also known as the Royal Poinciana, native to Madagascar. It is known for its bright red and orange flowers that bloom in the summer and its beautiful, fern-like leaves. Stunning.
Yellow Elder - Also known as the Yellow Trumpet, it is a species of flowering plant in the sunflower family. It is native to the Caribbean and is known for its bright yellow flowers that bloom in the spring and summer.
Tabebuia pallida - A species of flowering tree in the family Bignoniaceae, native to South America. It is known for its clusters of trumpet-shaped flowers that bloom in shades of yellow, pink, and purple.
Seagrapes - Coccoloba uvifera - A species of flowering tree in the buckwheat family, native to the Caribbean. The fruit looks like clusters of grapes. The fruit of the seagrape is edible and is often used to make juice, jelly, or wine. The fruit is rich in vitamins and minerals and is considered a good source of nutrition for coastal communities.
